A Support Group for Children and Teens Experiencing Divorce

Children

Often when parents separate and divorce, children are caught in the middle and struggle with their own emotions. They don’t know where to turn. This program can help. Children in the Middle, is designed to help children and teens whose parents are divorcing, or are already divorced, share their thoughts and feelings in a peer support setting. Children in the Middle is a companion to the successful Transparenting seminar and can function either in conjunction with or separately from the parents’ seminar.

The program is organized in four, hour long sessions. Youth of similar ages meet weekly to share experiences and work on feelings through group discussion, videos and participation in age appropriate exercises designed to help them adjust to the changes in their family life. Children in the Middle, focuses on the child in terms of his or her world view. Just like the parents’ seminar, the purpose of Children in the Middle is to help minimize the negative impact of divorce on children.

The topics discussed in the one-hour, four part series are:

Session I:    What is divorce and how do parents feel and act?
Session II:   Feelings when your parents divorce.
Session III:  Feeling caught in the middle of divorcing parents.
Session IV:  What can you do when your parents decide to  divorce?

JFS also offers comprehensive counseling services for children, teens and their families who face divorce and remarriage. The program is available to youth of all races, religions and economic situations.
