 In today’s mobile world, concerned relatives may be separated from their elderly family members by hundreds or thousands of miles. Periodic and holiday visits may no longer be sufficient to meet the increasing needs of their aging loved ones. Great distances make it difficult to be sure that a parent gets to a doctor’s office or receives hot meals every day. Minor issues become crises and crises become catastrophes when local assistance is not available. The Jewish Family Service of tidewater Elder Support Network program is part of a national Jewish network that serves as the crucial link between a geographically separated families. A call to JFS will result in a personalized, effective response including professional assessments and clinical evaluations, counseling, monitoring visits and care management. The older adult can receive any one, or a combination of, the array of JFS services designed to maintain his or her quality of life.
